We are a charitable organisation with only 3 full time members of staff at present, we therefore rely upon the community for support. If you are interested in volunteering with us we have a range of roles available. All volunteers must be aged 18 or over due to insurance requirements, as such we are unable to offer school work experience placements.

Trustee: Marketing and/or Charity Fundraising
Do you have a passion for wildlife and experience in fundraising and/or marketing, especially for non-profits? If so, then you could be part of our team at Andrews Hedgehog Hospital.
This is an unpaid, voluntary post
About us: Andrews was Established over 25 years ago and is fully committed to single species rescue in the UK. In 2024 we admitted over 1500 hedgehogs from throughout Lincolnshire. We work closely with other rescues and local veterinary practices. Where possible and when safe to do so, hogs are retuned to their original location. Alternatively, rehabilitated hedgehogs are released to our network of suitable release sites around the county.
We are passionate about wildlife and environmental education too, offering in-person talks to schools and community groups. Currently based in our founder’s residential back garden in Appleby, we are currently looking for a new, larger premises due to expansion, in order to cater for the increased volume of patient intake.
We have a small, core team of four full-time equivalent staff together with more than 20 volunteers who fulfil roles such as hedgehog helpers, response drivers and community patrons.
We are looking for an additional Trustee with a background in marketing and/or charity fundraising to join our Board.
Wanted – Committed, connected and enthusiastic trustees! We need you to oversee governance, provide strategic leadership and promote the mission, values and activities of Humber and Wolds Rural Action.
We are looking for Trustees to join the AHH Board at an exciting time of refreshing our strategy and developing and delivering projects and services that have a direct impact on the health and wellbeing of people living in the rural communities we serve across North Lincs.
Role requirements: We are looking for enthusiastic, committed and connected trustees, able to provide strategic leadership, oversee governance and promote the mission, values and activities of AHH. As a Trustee you’ll bring your experience, knowledge, skills and enthusiasm from your area of work, interest or general life experience. You will also need to demonstrate:
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
- Good knowledge of the issues facing voluntary and community sector organisations.
- The ability to work as a member of the Trustee Board with the Chief Executive and AHH.
- Willing to use your networks to strengthen the charity’s reputation with the public and private sector communities and local and regional stakeholders.
Time requirement: Board meetings take place at least quarterly on pre-determined dates. Additional time may be required between board meetings for activities such as board development.
The role of Trustee
Our Board of Trustees is a group of people who have oversight of the charity and make key decisions to help steer strategic direction. They represent a range of diverse backgrounds and skill sets too. Trustees bring their wider experience, skills and qualifications to bear on the charity, offering expert advice and guidance at a strategic level.
Trustee responsibilities include:
- Agreeing the strategic direction of the charity
- Ensuring the solvency and effective running of the charity
- Acting in the best interests of the charity
- Acting to protect the charity’s property and resources
- Ensuring there are effective controls in place to monitor and regularly review the charity’s finance and administrative systems
- Ensuring that risks to the charity are identified and appropriate steps are established to mitigate those risks.
Time commitment: The Board meets quarterly with meetings as required, usually via zoom or at the rescue hospital. Each Trustee will commit to a reasonable amount of time in order to carry out these procedures. This time may include consultations and input into a range of issues between meetings, usually via email or Whatsapp.
This is a voluntary role. You will be appointed for a term of three years, which may then be renewed. In return for your commitment, you will be rewarded with knowing you have helped save thousands of hedgehogs’ lives each year, raising awareness and contributing towards the conservation of this iconic native species. You will meet new people, learn new skills and make a real difference to Lincolnshire’s precious natural environment.
Lab Assistant
Microscope work, and data recording. Some study required. Training provided.
Triage Assistant
Performing injections, Diagnosing Ailments, Quantitative medication analysis. Training is provided.
